Parent Mentor

  • Are you new to Special Education and looking for support? Our Parent Mentor is here to help!

The Pupil Personnel Services Parent Mentor is one person dedicated solely to working collaboratively with parents and teachers to increase and enhance the educational opportunities for children with disabilities in the Freeport School District. The Parent Mentor is a liaison between the parent and the school.
When your child is diagnosed with a disability, it is often an overwhelming and confusing time for a parent. There are many policies, procedures and safeguards that go along with educating children with disabilities and may be difficult and frustrating to understand all of these. A Parent Mentor helps parents, educators and community members understand and successfully navigate their way through the Special Education process. The Parent Mentor also has an established network of communication in our schools that creates partnership among both parents and educators within the community. We are asking parents to reach out and share what is working at home to assist in your student’s achievement academically or socially. In addition, a list of resources is available to create a cooperative partnership within the community to meet the needs of the student.
Mission Statement: Bringing schools and parents together to ensure a successful education for children with disabilities.
