Welcome Freeport Middle School Parents and Scholars,
On behalf of the staff at Freeport Middle School, we are excited to welcome you to the 2017 – 2018 school year. We hope you had an enjoyable summer and are ready to engage in positive and caring learning environment. Both me and Mr. Chad Cox are honored and privileged to be your new administrative team this year. We are excited about working with our highly qualified and dedicated staff, our wonderful scholars, and all of the supportive parents and community members; we are committed to keeping student achievement and individual growth our highest priorities. With this, we are committed to partnering with you, offering a 21st century learning environment, developing character, and providing engaging academic challenges that will prepare your scholar to be college and career ready.
Freeport Middle School theme this year will be “FMS RISE (Restore, Inspire, Succeed and Encourage)” with Pretzel Pride. If one scholar experiences a “RISE” in their academic or social experience at FMS, then this attitude becomes contagious and will spread into a positive environment for our learning community. At FMS, we instill Pretzel PRIDE (Positive, Respectful, Impressive, Disciplined and Educated) that will provide a foundational structure to promote becoming a global and competitive citizen. As one can see, this theme encompasses all of these values. This theme also supports Freeport Middle School’s shared vision statement which is, “In partnership with students, family and community, we educate every student for the challenges of today and the opportunities of tomorrow through the continuous pursuit of excellence.”
As in the past, the start time on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will begin at 7:30 a.m. and late start Wednesday begins at 7:50 a.m. concluding at 2:35 p.m. Our first day of school is on late start Wednesday, August 23rd. This a full day for scholars and they are expected to arrive at 7:50 a.m.
Similar to last year, scholars will be issued a photo identification badge free of charge. Should a student badge become damaged or lost, students/parents will be expected to purchase a replacement badge in the building office for $2.00. Students will be expected to wear these daily and must be visible on the front of their person. Also, scholars can provide their own school-appropriate lanyard.
Our student dress code is consistent with last year, with no new changes for 2017-2018. As a reminder, students are permitted to wear shorts of appropriate length. Please help us enforce that all shorts and skirts must be at least fingertip length above the knees and all uniform shirts must have a collar. All garments must be in good repair and free of holes. We appreciate parents’ help with upholding our dress code!
If you have any questions, please contact our office at (815) 232-0500. You may also choose to stop into the office weekdays between 7:05 AM and 2:35 PM. As a reminder, all absences for scholars need to be reported to the school.
We are excited about all of the positive things this year will hold for your scholar!
