April 16, 2019 Board Meeting Highlights

At its regular meeting held on April 16, 2019, the Freeport School District Board of Education:

● Reviewed highlights of the district’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the 2018 fiscal year. The CAFR will be made available on the district’s website. (Additional contact: Dr. Patrick McDermott, Asst. Superintendent of Business & Finance, 815-232-0300,

● Received an update on the implementation of project-based learning in the district. This school year, the district oversaw the training of 35 district teachers as early adopters of this instructional strategy. ● Received an update on planning for Summer University and the district’s other summer learning programs, which will take place for five weeks this summer from June 10th to July 11th. (Additional contact: Dr. Duane Meighan, Asst. Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, 815-232-0300,

● Approved a proposal to add a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) class in place of Speech and Drama in the 6th grade wheel at Carl Sandburg School for the 2019-2020 school year. (Additional contact: Mr. Ben Asche, Carl Sandburg School Principal, 815-232-0340,

● Approved contract extensions through the 2019-2020 school year for several administrators. (Additional contact: Mr. Chris Shockey, Director of Human Resources, 815-232-0300,

● Consented to the ​Superintendent Leadership Profile​ compiled by ​Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, the search firm assisting the Board of Education in the process of hiring a new Superintendent to lead the district​. This Leadership Profile was developed using information gathered through an online survey, community meetings, personal interviews, and small group sessions. It will be used in continued superintendent search efforts and details the primary qualities and characteristics desired in the next superintendent by several categories of FSD stakeholders.
