Staff and students at Freeport High School and Blackhawk Elementary School will combine their talents on November 9th to host a celebration in honor of Veterans Day.
The program will spotlight the role music plays in the military and for our veterans. Keynote speakers will include Brian Stewart, Illinois State Representative and U.S. Army veteran, Gary Downing, a retired FSD teacher and U.S. Army veteran, and Jane Lehman, who served by singing to wounded troops at VA hospitals in Chicago during WWII. The Pretzel Navy J.R.O.T.C. Color Guard and Armed Exhibition Drill Team, as well as the Freeport High School Drumline, will also be featured in the program. The event will culminate with a musical tribute to our veterans by the Blackhawk student body, FHS Varsity Choir, and String Quartet.
All area veterans are invited to join us on November 9th in the Freeport High School West Gym for this celebration of the service of America’s veterans. The ceremony is set to take place at 10:15 AM.
Prior to the program at 9:15 AM, local veterans are also invited to a reception and light snacks hosted by the FHS American Women’s History Class.
