Grades 5-8 Report Card Committee

Who:  A representative committee of teachers and administrators will be convened to review the  current report card and grading practices for grades 5-8.

Why :  The committee will work toward ensuring that grading is consistent, valid, and equitable and that achievement is prioritized in the determination of grades.

What:  One of the desired outcomes of the committee is to determine if a new grade reporting system is needed. Another outcome is to ensure that the new grading system aligns to our beliefs about the purpose of grading, which is examining student achievement and growth, not compliance.

Postsecondary Success Grant

FSD  is eligible for the 2023 ESSER II – Postsecondary Success grant. The allocation was determined based on the survey that we completed sometime in November and early January. Details will be provided in the board meeting minutes.

MTSS Winter Data: MTSS Winter Data Days began the week of February 6. The purpose of data days is to review the winter MAP and AIMSweb data to make evidence-based decisions about how to continue to support students through both core instruction and targeted interventions. All Board members are invited to attend a data day to observe teachers and administrators engaging in data review cycles.

Information Reports

Boys & Girls Club Community Grant - The Boys & Girls Club of Freeport and Stephenson County (BGCFSC) is requesting an amount of $25,000 from Freeport School District to offer programming during the school year and throughout the summer. Members of the staff and board provided details of the program to the board.

PRESS Issue 110 - The Illinois Association of School Boards Policy Reference Education Subscription Service provides policy updates to subscribing School Districts on a quarterly basis.  These updates are due to changes in legislation, administrative rules, PRESS Advisory Board feedback, quality assurance, or other factors. These policies have been reviewed by Central Office Administrators.

2023-2024 School Year Calendar - The process for setting the 2023-2024 school year calendar has been completed and ready for Board consideration. The school year calendar has been reviewed by principals and by the Freeport Education Association.  Recommendations have been taken into consideration.  New this year, we will be seeking a waiver for four full-day school improvement days.
