May 15th Board Meeting Highlights

At its regular meeting held Tuesday evening, the Freeport School District Board of Education:

● Considered a proposal to adopt the Pearson Miller & Levine Biology 2019 Program, the Walker Pearson Physics Program, and PASCO Chemistry Program for High School Science Curriculum. This item will return to the Board for action at its next regular meeting on June 19th. (Additional contact: Dr. Duane Meighan, Asst. ● Approved a proposal to update the K-6 Uniformity of Dress Policy to allow for any solid-colored polo or school spirit shirt to be worn as part of the uniform. However, the two proposed versions to update the Gr. 7-12 policy resulted in a tied vote. Therefore, this item will return to the Board for further consideration and action at a special meeting on May 21st. ● Approved a recommendation to purchase new World Language Curriculum resources and to adopt the Pearson/My Perspectives Curriculum for FHS English Language Arts (ELA) courses. ● Considered a proposal for increased discipline support throughout the district. The two proposed versions of the proposal resulted in a tied vote, so this item will return to the Board for further consideration and action at a special meeting on May 21st. ● Approved a proposal to revise the elementary school boundaries for the 2018-2019 school year. Due to disparities in building size and enrollments, the boundaries between Blackhawk Elementary, Center Elementary, and Taylor Park Elementary have been adjusted slightly. ● Appointed Melissa Sago as Freeport Middle School Assistant Principal for the 2018-2019 school year. Ms. Sago will begin her new role on July 1st, 2018, with a one year contract. (Additional contact: Mr. Chris Shockey, Director of Human Resources, 815-232-0307, chris.shockey@fsd145.org)

The next scheduled regular meeting will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2018,​ at 6:00 PM​ ​at Freeport Middle School.​ ​A special meeting of the Board is also scheduled for Monday, May 21, 2018,​ at 5:30 PM​ at the FSD Administration Building​.
