FSD Testing for High Academic Potential Program (HAPP)

FSD to Hold Testing for High Academic Potential Program

FREEPORT, IL - The High Academic Potential Program (HAPP) is the Freeport School District’s program for meeting the needs of students who possess high academic potential.  The program is more academically rigorous than the regular classroom.  HAPP classes for first through fourth grades are at Center Elementary School and grades five and six are at Carl Sandburg School.

All Freeport School District students in kindergarten and fourth grades will complete the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) during the week of February 22 - 26, to determine admission into the program. The NNAT is a culturally-fair, nonverbal measure of ability where students rely on reasoning and problem-solving skills. Remote Learners in grades Kindergarten and fourth will be administered the NNAT on Wednesday, February 24. Parents of remote learners will need to contact the Freeport SD145 Equity Department to set-up an appointment.

To better align with the goals and expectations of the High Academic Potential Program, current fourth grade HAPP students will also take the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) during the week of February 22.

Parents who are interested in having their kindergarten or fourth-grade child participate in HAPP and who reside in the Freeport School District, but are not enrolled in the Freeport School District, may contact the Freeport School District at 815-232-0300 ext.11111 in order to arrange for their child to be tested as well.

The test for non-district students will be administered on Wednesday, February 24, but must be arranged by appointment only. Again, if your child is not a current FSD student but resides in the district and is interested in being considered for HAPP, you must make advance arrangements for testing by calling Laura Franco at 815-232-0300 ext. 11111. Please call by 4 pm, on Friday, February 19, to schedule your testing session.
