     Dr. Anna Alvarado

    Dr. Anna Alvarado began serving as Superintendent of Schools in the Freeport School District on July 1st, 2019.

    Dr. Alvarado has been in education for 35 years. She previously served as the Chief Officer for Teaching and Learning at Chicago Public Schools, a role she had been in for one year. Prior to that, Dr. Alvarado served as the Deputy Chief of Teaching and Learning at Chicago Public Schools from 2017 to 2018, as Chief of Schools at Chicago Public Schools from 2012 to 2017, and as Deputy Chief of Schools there for half a year in 2012. Since 2016, she has also been an adjunct professor at National Louis University. Dr. Alvarado has gained other experience by serving as an Elementary School Principal in Chicago Public Schools for six years, as an Assistant Principal in the Archdiocese of Chicago for six years, and as a teacher for 17 years.

    Dr. Alvarado holds a Doctor of Education degree from National Louis University (2017). She also holds a Master of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois University (2004) and a Bachelor of Arts degree from College of the Holy Spirit (1982). Dr. Alvarado is a Certified Superintendent in Illinois.
