• Members of the public are invited to attend receptions to meet the three final candidates in Freeport School District’s search for its next superintendent. The receptions will be held on Monday, May 20th, Tuesday, May 21st, and Wednesday, May 22nd at 4:30-5:15 p.m. at the Freeport Middle School Conference Center (701 W. Empire Street). The identity of each candidate will be announced at 6 p.m. on the day prior to their reception.


    Wednesday, May 22nd Reception - Candidate: Anna M. Alvarado, Ed. D.

    Dr. Anna Alvarado has been in education for 35 years. She currently serves as the Chief Officer for Teaching and Learning at Chicago Public Schools, a role she has been in for one year. Chicago Public Schools has an enrollment of 375,000. In her role, Dr. Alvarado is responsible for a staff of 120 and a budget of $160,000,000.

    Dr. Alvarado previously served as the Deputy Chief of Teaching and Learning at Chicago Public Schools from 2017 to 2018, as Chief of Schools at Chicago Public Schools from 2012 to 2017, and as Deputy Chief of Schools there for half a year in 2012. Since 2016, she has also been an adjunct professor at National Louis University. Dr. Alvarado has gained other experience by serving as an Elementary School Principal in Chicago Public Schools for six years, as an Assistant Principal in the Archdiocese of Chicago for six years, and as a teacher for 17 years.

    Dr. Alvarado holds a Doctor of Education degree from National Louis University (2017). She also holds a Master of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois University (2004) and a Bachelor of Arts degree from College of the Holy Spirit (1982). Dr. Alvarado is a Certified Superintendent in Illinois.

    Tuesday, May 21st Reception - Candidate: Caroline Pate-Hefty, Ed. D.

    Dr. Caroline Pate-Hefty has been in education for 17.5 years. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Student Services at Maywood-Melrose Park-Broadview School District 89, a role she has been in for six years. District 89 has an enrollment of 5040, a staff of 275, and a budget of $64,000,000.

    Dr. Pate-Hefty previously served as the Director of Special Education at Harlem Consolidated School District from 2008 to 2013. She has also gained experience by serving as Principal of Walter Lawson Children’s Home for a year and a half and serving as a teacher for six years.

    Dr. Pate-Hefty holds a Doctor of Education degree from National Louis University (2017). She also holds a Master of Arts degree from Concordia University (2007) and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin (2002). Dr. Pate-Hefty holds a Superintendent Endorsement for Illinois.

    Monday, May 20th Reception - Candidate: Anthony Bonds

    Anthony Bonds has been in education for 25 years. He currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, & Innovation at the School District of Beloit, WI, a role he has been in for four years. The School District of Beloit has an enrollment of 7400, a staff of 800, and a budget of $100,000,000.

    Mr. Bonds previously served as the Director of Elementary Education at Sun Prairie Area Schools, WI, from 2013 to 2015. He has also gained experience by serving as Principal of Washington Elementary School in Wauwatosa, WI, for 10 years, as Associate Principal of West High School in Wauwatosa, WI, for four years, and as a high school science teacher at King High School in Milwaukee, WI, for five years.

    Mr. Bonds is expected to receive his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Edgewood College in July 2019. He holds a Master of Arts in Administrative Leadership from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (1999) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Chemistry from Morris Brown College (1994). Mr. Bonds also graduated from the National Superintendent Academy in 2017 and holds a Superintendent Endorsement for both Illinois and Wisconsin.
