Superintendent 2026-2027 Opening Letter

Dear Freeport School District Families,

Welcome to a new school year! As we prepare to open our doors and welcome our students back, I am grateful for the opportunity to begin another year together. Our families are essential partners in the work we do, and we look forward to working alongside you to make 2026–2027 a successful year for every student.

Celebrating 100 Years of Freeport High School

This year marks a very special milestone for our district. Our current Freeport High School building opened in April 1926, with students first attending in the fall of 1926. We invite our families and community to join us for a Centennial Celebration on Saturday, September 12, from 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. The celebration will include food trucks, historical speakers and displays, bands, building tours, and more.

Future Focused

Our theme for the 2026–2027 school year is Future Focused. This theme reflects our commitment to looking ahead with intention, using what we have learned, making thoughtful decisions, and continuing to build a strong and sustainable future for Freeport School District 145.

Being Future Focused means keeping our students at the center of our decisions while ensuring that our district is positioned to serve them well not only today, but for years to come.

All In for All Kids: Our 2026–2029 Strategic Plan

This year, we also begin the work of our new 2026–2029 Strategic Plan: All In for All Kids. This plan reflects the voices of staff, families, students, and community partners who shared their time, perspectives, and ideas to help shape the future of our district.

Now comes the most important part—bringing that plan to life. Our commitment is simple but significant: All In for All Kids. We look forward to sharing more with you throughout the year about our priorities, our progress, and the ways our families and community can be part of this work.

Preparing Our Schools

Our teams have also been busy preparing our buildings for students. Summer improvements included facility and security upgrades at several schools, work at Freeport Middle School and Blackhawk, upgrades to the building automation system at Freeport High School, and resurfacing and re-striping of the Freeport Stadium track. These projects were completed using Life Health Safety funds designated specifically for facility improvements.

We are also welcoming new teachers, administrators, and staff members across FSD 145. In addition, our new FACE (Family and Community Engagement) Office will work to strengthen partnerships and build meaningful connections among our schools, families, and community.

The first day of school is Thursday, August 20, and we cannot wait to welcome our students back!
