Administrator Profile

Susan Fumo began serving as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Freeport School District in July 2023. Her previous experience includes 7 years as a district administrator and 4 years as a building administrator at Rockford Public Schools.  She has experience supervising principals, coaching leadership teams, designing professional learning experiences, and leading continuous improvement cycles for school improvement.  Prior to that, Susan was a high school English teacher for 10 years.

Susan holds an Education Specialist degree from Aurora University and a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University.  She also holds a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She is currently working on her Doctorate at Aurora University.

Susan lives in Rockford with her husband Mike, a urologist whose practice encompasses the Freeport area.  They have 4 children ranging in age from 14 to 21.  She loves traveling with her family, running, reading and being outdoors.
