It’s time for some positive attention!

We don’t often hear about the good things kids are doing – negative behavior seems to get most of the attention in schools and in the community.

But there are kids being good and doing good every day. They are the ones who model the good behavior we want to encourage – they respect others’ feelings, follow instructions, help others and do their best. CITA will recognize and appreciate these positive behaviors!

What is Caught in the Act?

The Caught in the Act (CITA) initiative is a Freeport-wide effort to recognize and appreciate the good things kids do. It’s an initiative of the Stephenson County Community Youth Development Council (CYDC), in partnership with the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system of Freeport District #145.

    CITA partners include:

    ·         Freeport School District #145

    ·         Boys and Girls Club of Freeport & Stephenson County

    ·         The Dream Center

    ·         Freeport Police Department

    ·         Freeport Public Library

    ·         Freeport Park District

    ·         Family YMCA of Northwest Illinois

Beginning this fall, community coaches from partner agencies will issue CITA tickets to youth “caught” exhibiting respectful, responsible and safe behavior.

CITA tickets can be redeemed for prizes from community sponsors – from free treats at local restaurants to cool prizes.

Where can my child redeem CITA tickets?

If he or she is a District 145 student, your child should redeem CITA tickets at school. (Your child’s elementary school may have its own name for the CITA initiative – for example, at Center School, you’ll know CITA as “Paws Laws.”)

If he or she doesn’t attend a District 145 school, your child can redeem CITA tickets at the Freeport Public Library.
