Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and coordination of the Freeport School District’s special education services to ensure all areas are aligned with applicable laws and regulations.
Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education and interprets the philosophy and practices of the special education department to administrators, staff, and the public at large;
Provides leadership in special education, special education bilingual and alternative education programs by evaluating curriculum, facilities, learning activities, materials and supplies, transportation, parent relationships and teaching practice;
Shares information with staff regarding best practices in special education, instructional issues, and state and federal requirements regarding services for students with special needs and disabilities, Section 504 and other support-related programs;
Provides oversight to the process for early intervention and identification of students with special needs;
Provides recommendations to administrators and committees relative to needed program improvements or modifications relative to special education;
Provides leadership in developing and implementing new programs and developing improved understanding of existing programs;
Assists special education instructors in teaching techniques, assessing student needs, and in-service training;
Assists with supervision, schedules, programs, and evaluation of all itinerant personnel (speech, hearing, vision, physical and occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses).
Jack Code has served as Director of Pupil Personnel Services for FSD#145 since July 1, 2016. He previously served as Special Education Administrator for the Kendall County Special Education Cooperative in Yorkville, IL. Prior to that, he held positions as a Junior High Curriculum Coordinator and a Learning Behavior Specialist for the Oswego School District in Oswego, IL. Jack has also had several years of experience as a special education and social studies teacher in various settings.
Jack is a graduate of Illinois State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education K-12 in 1984. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from Governors State University in 2009 and a Director of Special Education Endorsement from the University of St. Francis in 2014.
Jack is married to his wife, Kathleen, and lives in Freeport. He has three children, each of whom are college graduates.
Mr. Code enjoys spending time with his family, especially outdoors – boating, bicycling, golfing, or anything that brings him closer to wildlife.
