Freeport High School Theatre Department proudly presents the hilarious farce Noises Off in the Jeannette Lloyd Theatre May 11, 12, and 13. Straight from a 2016 revival on Broadway, Noises Off gives audiences a sneak peek at what goes on behind the scenes of a ridiculous play, from dress rehearsal through closing night.
Act I reveals the dress rehearsal for a hopelessly inept cast, including an again actress who can’t remember where to put the sardines. Act II shows a performance one month later—with a big twist. The entire set has been turned around so that the audience in the Jeannette Lloyd Theatre will see all the backstage antics and arguments while the front of the set is turned to an imaginary second audience. Act III shows what happens to cast members when they have to ad-lib just to cover up all their petty arguments and poorly-timed naps. Between a cactus, lingerie, and bouquets of flowers, and ill-fated romances, it all gets pretty crazy.
Director Tim Connors loves a challenge, and Noises Off provides a terrific challenge for him and his talented cast. “During Act II, each actor is really performing two plays simultaneously: one “offstage” and one “onstage.” Timing is critical as most of them juggle playing two characters at the same time.” Technical director Bob Winter also has a big challenge: designing and building an entire set that revolves: facing the audience for Acts I and III, and facing backstage for Act II.
The energetic cast includes seniors Jhavian Dixon, Cecelie Eiler, Sydney Mitchell, Erin Schrader, and Tommy Tempel; juniors Liz Julius and Daniel Rials; and sophomores Henry Connors and Jake Folowell.
